چکیده

Pilot contamination severely degrades the achievable rates in massive MIMO systems. To resolve the problem, many channel state information (CSI) and channel distribution information (CDI) methods were developed. This paper presents a CDI based pilot coordination method that leads to a considerable improvement in the achievable sum rate. It also shows that pilot assignment can drastically affect sum rate performance and describes a method that avoids worst-case conditions.

Location-Aided Pilot Decontamination for Massive MIMO Systems

One of the key limitation of massive MIMO systems is pilot contamination, which is defined as the interference during uplink channel estimation due to re-use of the same pilots in surrounding cells. In this paper, we propose a location-based approach to the pilot contamination problem for uplink MIMO systems. Our approach makes use of the approximate locations of mobile devices to provide good ...

Design of Orthogonal Uplink Pilot Sequences for TDD Massive MIMO under Pilot Contamination

—Massive MIMO has been acknowledged as a promising technology to counter the demand for higher data capacity for wireless networks in 2020 and beyond. However, each Base Station (BS) requires good enough knowledge of Channel State Information (CSI) on both the uplink and the downlink as massive MIMO relies on spatial multiplexing. In Time Division Duplex (TDD) massive MIMO systems, this CSI is...

Uncoordinated pilot decontamination in massive MIMO systems

This work concerns wireless cellular networks applying time division duplexing (TDD) massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology. Such systems suffer from pilot contamination during channel estimation, due to the shortage of orthogonal pilot sequences. This paper presents a solution based on pilot sequence hopping, which provides a randomization of the pilot contamination. It is sh...

On massive MIMO performance with semi-orthogonal pilot-assisted channel estimation

With the rapidly increasing demand for high-speed data transmission and a growing number of terminals, massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) has been shown promising to meet the challenges owing to its high spectrum efficiency. Although massive MIMO can efficiently improve the system performance, usage of orthogonal pilots and growing terminals causes large resource consumption especial...

Uplink Sounding Reference Signal Coordination to Combat Pilot Contamination in 5G Massive MIMO

To guarantee the success of massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO), one of the main challenges to solve is the efficient management of pilot contamination. Allocation of fully orthogonal pilot sequences across the network would provide a solution to the problem, but the associated overhead would make this approach infeasible in practical systems. Ongoing fifth-generation (5G) standardisa...
